My Theory and Specialties: My primary theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), supported by elements of Reality/Choice Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Narrative Therapy. This integrative approach allows me to address clients’ cognitive, behavioral, and relational needs through both structure and flexibility.
Grounded in Relational-Cultural Theory (RCT) and a strengths-based perspective, my counseling approach emphasizes growth through connection, empowerment, and resilience. I view clients as experts in their own lives and collaborate with them to build on existing strengths and community supports. This framework influences my work in counseling, teaching, and supervision by promoting authenticity, mutual learning, and reflective practice. It encourages connection, cultural responsiveness, and self-awareness in all professional relationships. My specialty area is rural mental health, where I apply this integrated, relational approach to enhance access, reduce stigma, and honor the resilience of rural communities.
