Finding the right clinical supervisor in Texas is one of the most important professional decisions you'll make as an associate. The supervisor you choose affects your training, your confidence, your paperwork trail, and ultimately — your license.
This page exists to make that search easier. Don't see a supervisor in your area? Search for Virtual 👉
What Is the Kate Walker Training Texas Supervisor Directory™?
The Kate Walker Training Texas Supervisor Directory™ is a curated, searchable listing of licensed Texas clinical supervisors – LPC Supervisors, LMFT Supervisors, and Social Work Supervisors – who have chosen to list their information so associates can find them.
Supervisors provide their own information. We post it, organize it, and make it searchable by region, price range, and supervision type. You can sort by location and filter by whether a supervisor works with associates in private practice.
This is not a paid ranking. Supervisors are listed alphabetically. You're seeing real supervisors — not just whoever could afford a steep listing fee on a general directory site.
For Associates and LMSWs: The directory is publicly searchable. Browse freely.
For supervisors: A directory listing is now an included benefit of the Step It Up Membership. Listings are no longer sold separately.
How to Use the Directory
You can search the directory by using:
- The search bar to find by name or keyword
- Location filters by region or city
- Specialty filters, including willingness to supervise associates in private practice
Dig into individual profiles for pricing range ($, $$ , $$$), virtual vs. in-person availability, supervision modalities, areas of specialty, and educational background.
All listed supervisors hold active Texas licensure, but we always recommend verifying through the Texas BHEC license verification system before entering a supervisory relationship.
What to Ask a Potential Supervisor
Before you commit, you deserve a real conversation. Here's what most associates forget to ask:
- What do you charge, and what does that include?
- Do you offer virtual supervision?
- Do you supervise associates in private practice?
- How often will we meet, and what happens if you're unavailable?
- What does your orientation process look like?
- How do you handle remediation if I'm struggling?
These are professional questions and a well-prepared supervisor will expect them.
We also have a free guide with interview questions, red flags to watch for, and questions your potential supervisor may ask you. Grab it here.
What Should Graduate Students Know About Clinical Supervision?
Not all supervisors are equally prepared — and the rules don't require them to be. Here's what to look for:
A well-prepared supervisor will:
- Begin the relationship with a written contract based on current Texas BHEC rules
- Provide a thorough orientation covering crisis protocols, mandated reporting, and emergency procedures
- Formally evaluate you at least two to three times during your supervision period — you should always know exactly where you stand
- Supervise you consistently — weekly for LMFT Associates, four hours monthly for LPC Associates
- Limit group supervision to no more than 50% of your total hours
- Teach you the rules — not just their preferences
- Have a remediation plan if your evaluations show you're struggling
If a supervisor can't explain their evaluation process before you sign a contract — that's a red flag.

Who Can Supervise in Texas?
The “S” designation is not a separate license. It's a designation added to an existing LCSW, LPC or LMFT license after a clinician meets specific eligibility requirements and completes a board-required 40-hour supervisor training course.
Here's how eligibility generally works:
- LPC Supervisors must be fully licensed for at least five years.
- LMFT Supervisors must have at least 3,000 supervised hours of practice over no fewer than three years.
- Social Work Supervisors must hold the LCSW license for at least 2 years.
- Course Certificates never expire. In Texas, your 40-hour completion certificate is now valid indefinitely. This means you can complete your Texas 40-Hour LPC LMFT or Social Work Supervisor Training as soon as you are fully licensed, ensuring you are ready to submit your application to BHEC the moment you hit your 5-year (LPC) or 3-year/3,000-hour (LMFT) milestone.
- Supervisors can only supervise their license
Returning to Supervision? If you took your coursework years ago but never applied for your “S” designation, or you are moving to Texas with your “S,” many clinicians choose to retake the 40-Hour Course to get up to speed on the latest BHEC Consolidated Rulebook updates and digital paperwork standards.
For Supervisors: Get Listed in the Directory
The Texas Supervisor Directory is the highest-ranking supervisor directory in Texas. Associates across the state use it to find their next supervisor — and they find it through Google.
A directory listing is now included with the Step It Up Membership — no separate purchase required.

- Unlimited CEs (80+ hours NBCC and Texas Social Work, LPC, LMFT compliant. Other states check your licensing board.)
- Weekly LIVE group coaching via Zoom

- Private practice and supervision templates and paperwork updated to current rules
- Weekly Study Hall with curriculum specialists
- Discounts on consultations, workshops, and the supervisor training courses

How to Become a Texas Supervisor (If That's Where You're Headed)
If you're an associate now but thinking ahead, that's the right instinct.
Texas Social Workers, LPCs and LMFTs who want to supervise must complete a board-required 40-hour supervisor training course. Not all courses are created equal, and the Texas boards do not approve or vet individual courses or instructors. That means it's on you to choose carefully.
At Kate Walker Training, our Online 40-Hour LPC/LMFT Supervisor Training is the longest-running supervisor course in Texas – original since 2006, audited by the LPC board in 2016, and updated every time the rules change. Our Online LCSW 40 Hour Supervisor Course taught by Dr. Ashley Stephens LCSW-Supervisor is the first fully online self-paced Social Work supervisor training in Texas.
Graduates of our Pro and Elite plans receive Step It Up Membership — which includes the directory listing, unlimited CEs, the monthly Supervision Lab, and more.
All directory listings are self-reported by supervisors. Verify licensure independently through the Texas BHEC license verification system. Licensing requirements vary — always confirm current rules with your licensing board. For questions specific to your situation, consult your board or an attorney.
