TCCBB #74: Business Problem Solving Beyond the Numbers: A Therapist's Guide

Confronting Financial Fears with Business Problem Solving

Do you remember the first time you had to sit down with a financial advisor? If you're anything like me, you were probably a bundle of nerves, worried about exposing your lack of confidence with numbers. I think I was actually sweating thinking about how quickly they realized I didn't know what I was doing.

But here's the thing: overcoming that initial fear is a huge step in mastering business problem solving. It’s essential for the growth and sustainability of your practice. Believe me, it becomes empowering once you get the hang of it.

Business Problem Solving Ideas: The Heart of Growth

Let's dive into some business problem solving ideas that can really turn things around for you. Whether you're naturally inclined to analyze data or you thrive on the emotional connections in your work, there's a path forward for you.

Problem Solving Business Ideas: The Driller’s Approach

Imagine yourself as a Driller, not in the oil fields, but in the vast sea of data that your practice generates. Here’s how I tackled my business problems with a Driller's precision:

Making Data Work for You

I looked at my practice like it was a set of numbers waiting to be understood. For instance, when I noticed that not all calls to my office were being returned, I saw a clear area for improvement. It was about identifying the problem and methodically working through it, step by step.

The Conversion Puzzle

Conversion rates can be a real headache, can’t they? I remember realizing that despite improving my response rate to calls, I was still not converting these opportunities into actual sessions. It was a wake-up call that led me to reevaluate how I communicated with potential clients, ultimately refining my approach to ensure those initial contacts turned into booked sessions.

Drilling down into the heart of the problem helped me better understand how I could up my conversion rate.

Business Problem Solving Ideas: The Butterfly Collector’s Touch

Let's move on to a softer approach, which is what I like to call “The Butterfly Collector.” The Butterfly Collector approach is all about emotional resonance for me. It's about understanding what aspects of your work bring you joy and fulfillment and using that insight to guide your business decisions.

Finding Joy in Your Work

When I started my practice, AchieveBalance, I thought I'd be helping parents of teenagers. I was parenting a teenager of my own at the time, so I figured this would be a natural area of expertise for me. I'm sure you can guess what happened with that! Yes, counter-transference happened!

I'll tell you right off the bat as a mom of a teenager, I was not in a place to be a good counselor of moms and dads with teenagers, and so I had to find that out for myself.

Once I figured this out through some soul-searching butterfly collecting, I realized that, to my surprise, I found more fulfillment in working with couples navigating infidelity. This was revelation was pivotal in reshaping my business focus and highlighted the importance of aligning my practice with my passions. This is what butterfly collecting can do as a business problem solving idea!

Integrating Insights: Problem Solving Business Ideas in Action

This is where we take those insights and turn them into actionable strategies.

For me, this involved a complete overhaul of how I presented my practice to the world. I revamped my website, honed my phone consultation script, and even changed how I conducted that awkward first counseling session. It wasn't just about attracting clients; it was about connecting with the right clients in the right way.

Embracing business problem solving has been a journey of self-discovery and growth. I've learned that whether you're dissecting data or aligning your practice with your heart's true calling, the key is to integrate these approaches into a cohesive strategy.
