Dr. Sofia GeorgiadouLPC-S # 69582, LMFT # 203203
After obtaining my B.A. in Psychology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, I completed my M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2009 and completed my Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy in August 2012, both from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Both Programs were COAMFTE and CAPREP-accredited.
I am originally from Greece and I moved to the US for graduate school in 2007. Due to my personal experience as an immigrant in the US, I am very attuned to cultural sensitivity issues with my supervisees and clients. I approach these matters in therapy and supervision with the inherent curiosity and excitement of a learner as opposed to an expert.
Memberships: Texas Supervisor Training Group Member, Member of the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapists, Member of AAMFT, Kate Walker Training 40 Hour Supervisor Course Graduate
Supervision Modalities: Face to face supervision, Virtual supervision, Triadic supervision (two people attend and counts as an individual), Group supervision, Supervision times after 5:00 PM, Weekend supervision times
My Theory and Specialities: My philosophy of clinical practice is that I view individuals within the daily context of their significant relationships. I work with them on increasing their understanding of their roles, strengths, and potential, as well as on enhancing their support system. Favorite quote is “Every behavior makes sense given its context”. The systemic models I mostly lean on are Intergenerational Theories, Solution-focused, MRI, Virginia Satir model, structural and strategic (Milan) approaches.
Family systems theory, Child welfare (working with children in CPS and foster care), Addressing trauma by looking and shifting transgenerational patterns.
I have experience working with children and their families in Juvenile Drug Court, Juvenile Probation, Pre-Diversion Programs, Inpatient Psychiatric Units, Residential Treatment Centers. I am currently the Clinical Director at a Residential Treatment Program for females (12-17 years old).
Supervision Practices: Weekly, Twice each month (two hour supervision), I am flexible
