40 Hour Supervisor Training Business Edition
Preparing Counselor Supervisors since 2007
How do you supervise amazing mental health associates and mitigate liability? What makes a prepared and competent trainee? How do you operate a successful supervision practice?
As it turns out, the answers aren’t as clear as you might think. Sure, you can take an amazing 40 hour LPC or LMFT supervisor training course anywhere with any instructor. The funny thing is, the 40 Hour LPC LMFT Supervisor Training Course alone can’t possibly give you everything you need to prepare the next generation of counselors and avoid personal complaints. Add to this the additional complications of adding supervision to an existing practice, hiring your associates, or starting a supervision-only practice, and things can get really complicated.
Instead of taking the same old continuing education, how about really creating a sustainable supervision practice? In our 40 Hour LPC/LMFT Supervisor Training Course: Business Edition you’ll learn everything you need to be a successful clinical supervisor AND operate a successful supervision practice. Don’t worry, you’ll get the same tools we provide in our traditional 40 Hour LPC/LMFT Supervisor Training including interviewing procedures, remediation plans, and curriculum designed for three specific intern developmental levels, but you will also get specific practice creating a supervision business plan that fits your life, your business, and your financial goals.
Why choose Kate Walker Training for your 40 Hour LPC LMFT Supervisor Training Course?
- We are the only dual licensed supervisor training to produce 40 cohorts of amazing counselor supervisors since 2007.

I have just completed the Supervision course that Kate Walker provides at Kate Walker Training and I completed the version that is all online. I was apprehensive because I did not know what to fully expect but the program is thorough and easy to follow so that you are fully aware of all the requirements you need to complete to fulfill the LPC Board’s requirement to be a LPC-S. When I did have questions Kate was prompt and so very easy to converse with. She continually made herself available for any questions or concerns. In addition, Kate’s feedback was constructive yet encouraging. Exactly what I was looking for. Someone to guide me and help me to become the best supervisor that I can be. Kate also provides ongoing support through a closed Facebook page for those that are LPC-S and have completed her course. I am excited to be part of a group of people that are there to educate, uplift, and provide support for each other. Kudos Kate!!! The course was awesome but your connection to me during the process made all the difference. Thank you so much!! – Gina Scalise DeLeon

Q: If I finish this program, am I automatically a supervisor?
A: No. This is not a certification course. Upon completing this program, participants seeking the clinical supervisor credential must still meet the criteria mandated in their state regulations, apply, and pay all applicable fees. State licensing boards have ultimate jurisdiction.
Q: Is this course approved by the Texas LPC/LMFT licensing boards? I remember that courses must be taught by approved providers only.
A: The workshop version of this supervisor workshop was audited and approved by the Texas LPC Board in 2016. In 2019 the law requiring the 40 hour LPC supervisor training to be offered only by an approved provider changed. Now, neither the LPC nor the LMFT board approves CE providers or supervisor training courses. The LPC board requires the course instructor to be a LPC Supervisor and Dr. Walker is a LPC Supervisor and LMFT Supervisor. Additionally, the Texas LPC regulations require LPC Supervisor training courses to meet certain criteria. We encourage you to preview the ‘Starting Line’ lesson and watch the short video of Dr. Walker explaining exactly how this Supervisor Training meets or exceeds state LPC and LMFT license standards.
Q: I didn’t think we could take the 40 hour training completely online. Did that law change too?
A: It did indeed. Limits on online, asynchronous CEs for LPCs were removed in 2019. LMFT regulations still stipulate only 15 CEs can be accrued from an online asynchronous non-interactive course each renewal cycle, but this course offers 11 asynchronous CEs and the rest are interactive.
Q: I have been a fully licensed Texas LPC for three years. I can be a supervisor, right?
A: It is up to the LPC board, but LPC rules stipulate you must hold your LPC license for five years before they will process your LPC Supervisor application. Only take this course if, upon completion you can say either:
- I have been licensed five years, or
- I have been licensed three years and I will submit my CE certificate in two years.
Q: How long must I hold my LMFT license before I can apply for my LMFT Supervisor designation?
A: It is up to the LMFT board, but LMFT rules stipulate you must have documented at least 3,000 hours of LMFT practice over a minimum of 3 years before they will process your LMFT Supervisor application. Only take this course if, upon completion you can say:
- I have have documented at least 3,000 hours of LMFT practice over a minimum of 3 years
So this course is good for two years?
A: For LPC, yes. LMFT doesn’t specify, so please turn in your certificate before you renew your license.
Q: How long can I take to complete the course?
A: If you are a LPC, according to Texas LPC 681.147 (2)you have 90 days to complete the course requirements. At Kate Walker Training we start the 90 day clock when you purchase the course.
Q: I am a LMFT. Can I take more than 90 days to complete this course?
A: That may be complicated. The course ends automatically after 90 days. LMFTs who run out of time should contact support if circumstances arise and you need more time.
Q: I am a LPC and it has been 89 days and I don’t think I’m going to finish in time. What happens if I don’t?
A: According to Texas LPC 681.147 (2)you have 90 days to complete the course requirements. We start the clock when you purchase the course and we cannot extend the time.
Q: I turned everything in on day 89. If my instructor takes too long to check my work can I get an extension/refund/discount?
A: No. Instructors have up to 10 days per assignment to check your work so we recommend you turn in your last assignment no less than 10 days before your completion date.
Q: I purchased the course and I realize now I just don’t have time. Can I get a refund?
A: Unfortunately no. This course is non-refundable because the material is considered to be ‘consumed’ as soon as you purchase it. Please see our terms and conditions regarding the purchase of e-goods.

I feel this training was not just skill based. It really helped me explore the identity of being a supervisor. Going into this training, I had little understanding of my role as a supervisor and I leave feeling more confident in who I am in that role. – Bethany S
It was actually kind of fun. Not something I would usually say about an intense course. Also, I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know about supervision. I feel much more informed and prepared. Thanks! – Barbara N. P.
Thank you for making this course interesting and informative! I enjoyed the reflective assignments, but mostly loved the video recording. – Twila
It was a great balance of challenge, growth, and manageable work. I liked the videos accompanied by PPT slides. It’s a great combination for understanding the material. – Sadia
I loved everything about this course. There is really not one thing I would change. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone. – Cameron H
It’s easy to use and I appreciated the feedback I received on my assignments. The information provided, the organization of it, and at the end you are prepared to see interns with the contract you have developed in the course. – Charlotte J
The video lesson presentations felt like I was in an in-person class. I loved having the Power Point to use/keep while watching each lesson. I also like the different modes of checking for understanding with quizzes and essays. Also the linking of additional resources was very nice. – LaMonica K
It was an excellent course. It was recommended to me by a colleague that took the hybrid course (in person lectures, with online assignments). The only thing I miss is connecting with future supervisors, but that can be easily remediated in the many groups offered. Things I loved: Availability to complete the course at your own pace; thoroughness in critique and comments on assignments. – Graciela PdeL
I enjoyed the vignettes and the voice over PowerPoint presentations. I appreciated that there handouts to print to go along with the PowerPoint. Dr. Walker was very timely in her responses to my assignments. – Margaret T
This course was wonderful! There was so much information and Dr. Walker gave many resources that can help with future situations. Thank you! I loved that it was all online. I mostly appreciated the feedback given for each of the papers. The information given after each of those were invaluable. – Tiffany W
I really enjoyed having the writing assignments they both helped me think more critically and allowed me to reflect on my history as a counselor. I also really enjoyed the lectures because of the freedom it gave me to replay parts if I didn’t fully understand it. Finally, I appreciated all the extra articles that weren’t mandatory but offered a lot of extra learning. – Steven D

Expectations were clear, it was thorough, and it was engaging! –Jennifer S
I appreciated that I was treated like a professional. I am currently working on my “summer learning” for my district and it is more than disappointing as we are going through lessons as though we are junior high students. So, I really appreciated the links for us to search things on our own and the voice over powerpoints being more of a discussion and not having the slides read to me. – Edwina T
That it was self-paced and the assignments were very applicable and not just busy work. Also, Dr. Walker was very responsive and thorough and supportive with her feedback. –Mary M
I greatly appreciate the responsiveness. Grading never took the full 10 days and any questions I had were answered very quick. It felt like a great overall course that I am proud to have been a part of. The ease of access and use of technology. I also enjoyed how much ethics/rules were incorporated in an engaging manner vs. a boring review which I do not think I would have gotten as much from. – Kacey G
Your feedback was wonderful. You are very helpful and encouraging. It was a pleasant surprise you even took the time to call me. – Christy R
I loved that the course was designed well and easy to access. It was easy to maneuver through, and the assignments were just the right length. I appreciate that the course challenged me and didn’t feel like I was just putting in the required hours. It gave me plenty of material to reflect and assignments that honed my knowledge base. – Tara W
I really valued the in-depth feedback and also the additional resources that were shared with me. My frame of reference is limited to what I have done. Dr. Walker supplied me with resources to further my knowledge base after the course as I begin working as a counselor supervisor. I loved that it made me rise to the occasion. It was challenging. I explored some new ideas with technology. I believe the course was thorough. Through each of the modules, I re-visited some things I had not read or thought about in a while. I was able to look back and reflect on my practice to see how theories, tenets, and best practices have actually been in place through the years and see how knowledge and understanding of these components truly give us structure and a road map on which to travel. I also love the online format where I could complete the course on my schedule and not take time away from my current clients, especially during this strange time of COVID-19. Sincere thanks! – Anne H
The course was well structured and the materials were easy to understand. Every part of the course was thorough presented and relevant. I loved the usage of technology throughout the course and the variety of teaching strategies throughout the course. I enjoyed how clear all the directions were. It made completing assignments, for a distance course, manageable. I also enjoyed Kate’s thoughtful feedback on assignments. – Rakima D
Thank you for this experience. My coworkers told me it was going to be not only a way to expand my career but also my knowledge and it did! – Michelle W
