The Kate Walker Training advisory board provides oversight and guidance to the management of all educational course content. Our board consists of accomplished experts in the field of counseling and counselor education. Their innovative advice and dynamic perspectives provide strategic direction, guide quality improvement, and assess course effectiveness.

Roles and responsibilities

Advisory board audits each course annually

  • Quality control: Are these courses engaging?
  • Teaching/learning objectives: Do the courses teach what the syllabus describes?
  • Are exams valid and reliable?
  • Do courses contain the most up to date information?
  • Are courses being added regularly to reflect the needs of counselors and counselor supervisors?
  • Are courses being pulled that no longer meet our high standards?

Advisory board members include counselors and counselor educators who share a common interest in providing exceptional continuing education to counselors in Texas. This common interest helps ensure that the advisory board will be committed and pleased to audit courses and push course excellence and quality to the staff at Kate Walker Training.”

Term of membership

Advisory board members are appointed to indefinite terms. Advisory board members are not paid for their services.

Jennifer Boswell Ph.D., LPC-S, NCC, RPT President Texas Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (TACES)

Dr. Boswell is an Assistant Professor of Counselor Education and the Director of Counselor Education at the University of Houston Victoria/Katy campus, a CACREP-Accredited University in Texas. She also serves as the 2018-2019 President of the Texas Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (TACES). Jennifer is one of our 40 hour supervisor training instructors and has been instrumental in developing and delivering excellent supervisor courses.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Christopher Taylor Ph.D., LPC-Supervisor

Dr. Taylor is an adjunct professor of counseling ethics at Dallas Theological Seminary and Amberton University. As a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary with a Masters in Counseling, Dr. Taylor utilizes existential psychotherapy to provide treatment for individuals struggling with loss of identity, depression, anxiety, and divorce recovery. As a Board-Approved Supervisor with a Ph.D. in Counseling Education and Supervision, Dr. Taylor currently provides supervision for licensed interns. In 2015 Dr. Taylor was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to serve on the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors as a professional member.

Naomi is in her final semesters of her doctoral program at Sam Houston State University. She a new counselor education faculty member at South Dakota State University.

 

 

 

 

 

Katherine Bacon, Ph.D., LPC-S, NCC

Dr. Katherine Bacon founded the Parris Foundation in Houston, Texas and currently serves as Executive Director. Katherine has served victims and the community for more than 16 years and is an active foster care alumna. Dr. Bacon is a Licensed Professional Counselor board approved supervisor and Nationally Certified Counselor. Currently she also serves as Region D Coordinator for the Texas Victim Services Association (TVSA).

B.J. Barksdale is the clinical director at Boy’s and Girl’s Country and the owner of B.J. and Associates clinical counseling practice. She is past president of the Texas Counseling Association (TCA).
